Introducing Soren: sovereign AI for serious institutions
Soren is an AI-native firm founded by MIT engineers. We build private, context-aware AI systems for banks, hospitals, law firms, and government teams, deployed inside the infrastructure they already control.
Today we are introducing Soren. We are an AI-native firm, founded by a team of MIT engineers and backed by Y Combinator, that builds specialized AI systems tailored to how your organization actually works. We deploy them inside the environments you already trust, tuned to the context that makes your institution distinct.
This post is the short version of who we are and why we exist. If it resonates, the best next step is to talk to us.
The problem we started with
The market often asks serious institutions to rely on shared, general-purpose models that were never built for their operating realities. For a hospital, a law firm, or a bank, that trade-off does not hold up. The data, knowledge, and processes that matter most cannot leave the building, and the margin for error is thin.
So those institutions get stuck. They watch the technology improve, they know it could help, and they cannot find a responsible way to put it into a workflow that actually matters. The useful tools are not private enough, and the private options are not useful enough.
We started Soren on a simple conviction: organizations should not have to choose between using modern AI and protecting what makes them defensible.
What we believe
The most valuable AI systems will be sovereign, deployed within the environment that already governs the data, and contextual, tuned to the specific workflows of the organization using them. That belief shapes every system we ship.
- Systems respect security boundaries by design, not as an afterthought.
- Deployments run where your data already lives, in your cloud tenant, your VPC, or on-premise.
- Models are shaped around your processes, not the other way around.
We have written more about each half of this. On the contextual side, see context is the moat. On the sovereign and compliance side, see deploying AI in regulated industries without losing control.
What we actually do
We are engineers, and we work alongside your team rather than handing over a slide deck. Most engagements begin with an AI Readiness Assessment, a one-week review of where automation would pay off, what your data looks like, and what your security posture requires. You come away with a ranked roadmap of high-ROI workflows whether or not you build them with us.
From there we design, deploy, and operate the system inside infrastructure you control, and we hand off documentation and training at whatever level of involvement you want. Pricing is flat-rate, not per-token, so the bill does not punish you for using the thing you paid to build.
We focus on regulated and mission-critical institutions: legal, financial services, healthcare, and government. These are teams where a wrong answer is expensive and trust is the whole game, which is exactly where context and control matter most.
What comes next
We are a growing team working with exceptional clients across compliance-sensitive industries. Over the coming months we will share more about the systems we build, the research that informs them, and the way we think about deploying AI responsibly. You can follow along through our news page or read more about our view on the about page.
If our mission resonates with you, we should talk. Book a demo and tell us what you are trying to put into production.
Frequently asked questions
- What is Soren?
- Soren is an AI-native firm founded by MIT engineers and backed by Y Combinator. We build custom, private AI systems for regulated and mission-critical institutions, deployed inside the cloud tenant, VPC, or on-premise environment the client already controls.
- Who does Soren work with?
- We focus on regulated and mission-critical institutions, with deep experience in legal, financial services, healthcare, and government, where trust, compliance, and operational fit matter as much as raw model capability.
- How is Soren different from buying ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot?
- Off-the-shelf assistants are built for everyone, so they are not built around your workflows, your data, or your standards. Soren builds custom systems around your specific context and runs them inside infrastructure you control, with flat-rate pricing instead of unpredictable per-token billing.
- How do most engagements start?
- Most teams begin with an AI Readiness Assessment, a one-week engagement where our engineers evaluate your automation opportunities, data posture, and security posture, then hand back a ranked roadmap of high-ROI workflows.
